You may be able to get unemployment even though you were only there a week. Sometimes unemployment will use your previous employer for the time needed. They file on the previous employer's taxes that are paid for unemployment.

I would apply for unemployment. I would also talk to an attorney and see if maybe they broke some laws.

I think...therefore, I'm single.

It is what it is.

I appreciate the support, but there is no UI; my previous employer was a foreign government who does not pay taxes. I couldn't get it when I was laid off in May last year either.

It's not an issue; I have some support. WH even offered to help (ever my KISA...) No; I won't be going to him.

I'm looking into temp work, but I'm not sure I want to go that route. I've never done it before.

Temp work is actually a good way to bridge the gap or, it can be a way to find the next permanent gig.

I did it many years ago. What I found was that you could define some parameters and tell the agency that you are not interested in real short term assignments. You could indicate that you want to replace folks on maternity leave or disability. Not only does that give you a little more stability, but sometimes the regular employee chooses not to return to the job and it opens the door for you.

Crossing my fingers that the next great opportunity comes along real soon!!

I did this years ago as well, and it moved me into a permanent job while paying bills during the interim. It also gives you a chance to try different jobs/organizations to see what you may really like or don't like.
