I am so tired of plucking the dang wire-like hairs that have taken up residence on my chin. I know I am 40 and some of these things are to be expected with time. However, they gross me out, and I can't seem to keep up with them. No, I don't have an overgrowth and they aren't necessarily noticable to anyone but me, but I hate to feel them when I stroke my chin in thought. (I'm very introspective so I do that often. Or not. But still...)

So... anyone ever had laser hair removal on their chin? Pros? Cons?

ETA - I've had my hormones checked, and it's not because of any hormone imbalance. Just age and luck, I guess!

I did. I have PCOS, so I had quite a bit of unwanted hair growth on my face. The only issue I had was that for about 3 days after each session, it looked like I had a bunch of ant bites on my face. I tried to schedule my appointments for Thursday or Friday evening, so I would have the weekend to recover. I would also apply a cold towel to the area to help with the swelling.

The first session made a huge difference. I ended up having 4 in all. I'm darked haired, so it worked well on me. It doesn't work as well on those who are blonde or gray.

How long does it work *for*, though? That's the only thing that's held me back so far. The treatments I've seen listed are expensive when you are looking at three or four visit. And I just can't justify doing that every handful of months.

waxing is a nice middle ground between plucking and laser removal. Hurts like a sumbitch, but keeps them at bay longer than plucking and is by far cheaper than laser.

Threnody, I had significant hair growth to start with. Now, I do still have some hairs that I pluck occasionally, but I think those were ones that the tech missed in the process. I purchased a groupon for 6 visits for less than $200.00 if memory serves. I failed to go to all 6 visits. Had I done so, I wouldn't have these stragglers. It's been a year and a half and I'm quite pleased with the results.

I am of French/Dutch descent, and have fair skin and dark hair, all over ALL of my body. TMI I know. Anyway I had my lip done about 12 years ago, and really didn't finish my treatments. It dramatically thinned what was there, and has only gotten noticeable again in the past year.

So yah it was worth it.

I do have the annoying chin hairs, and find it amazing how one day they won't be there, and the next day it will be 4 inches long. How does that happen??!!??

I also find that many strange hairs pop out of some moles I have too, and have gone to keeping tweezers in my purse, my car and my desk so I can pluck those sneaky bastards when they just pop up.

Vellus hair gone awry!

I was thinking I'd better go ahead and get the laser done before my eyes went, but then I realized chances were good that other unwanted rogue hairs would show up with age.

I don't know about you all, but I need better lighting in the bathroom!!

PCOSer here too

I had a stray hair here or there and then my 2nd pregnancy it got a little more and preg #3 BOOM! Those hairs really started showing up!

Ive asked, and my dr can do it for $100 a treatment, which, for me (poor little church mouse that I am) is worth it. I just need to 1- save up the dough and 2- make an appointment. This dr is an hour away, so I think if he were closer, id do it sooner...

I am interested in going like 1 treatment, to get the majority gone. I don't mind if I have a few stragglers, but man, plucking everyday stinks! An LOL to tushnurse-- one day its not there, and a few hours later that sucker is 4 in long!!! so true!!!

I did a few rounds of laser (needed more but ran out of money).

I have dark hair and she said laser would work great on that. She did say any light hair (ie like those wirey-weird stranglers) it would not be effective on.

She recommended laser to deal with the bulk then if I had any that wouldn't go away (due to non-pigment), she had a lady she refers to that does electrolysis on those one-two persistent buggers.

Thanks all for weighing in. Good discussion and things to consider.

I spent 25 minutes in front of the mirror again last night searching for and removing any visible hair... and if I don't take some sort of other action, I'll be doing it again by Saturday.

I've always said if it were fashionable for women to be bald and have goatees, I'd be the first to go that route!

Hair follicles work in crops so you should have 4-6 treatments spaced 6 weeks apart. Don't pluck or wax for several (4-6) weeks before treatments, you can use a trimmer though. The hair needs to be there to carry the "zap" into the follicle.

OMG--I love you guys so much!!!! This is an awesome thread (and I'm right there with you, Ladies, tweezer firmly in hand!). I'm just wondering how many of our brethren have checked into this thread and immediately scheduled individual therapy appointment to erase the images seared into their brains. Thank you so much for giving me something to laugh about today! It reminds me of an old Mad Magazine story where the kid recounts his uncle and aunt coming to visit him. He feels the bristles scraping his cheek as he receives a huge kiss . . . and then his *uncle* kisses him. (ETA punctuation)

I reeeaaalllly want my eyebrows done. I am a freak about eyebrow shape and style, and I am so sick of waxing. It hurts! And plucking hurts too because my hair is coarse. The girl that does my brows says they are like pubes. Nice. Thanks so much. Did you just call me pube face?

I'm half Italian and half Scots. Until recently, I didn't know if I should grow my mustache out and wax it, or put braids and metal rings in my beard. Both are ethnically and culturally correct. But shit's getting out of control now that I'm in my 40s. I look like I ought to have a bit part in The Hobbit.

I'm so OVER this.

Count me in the wild hair brigade. The firs time I noticed one I thought a hair had fallen off my HEAD and got stuck to my chin. Nope. Was horrified.

The worst part for me is that my hairs are totally clear! They are not white, not blond, but see through clear. However they catch the light and are totally noticeable! They are also approximately 8.5 times as thick as the hairs on my head.

I guess I wouldn't qualify for laser removal because of their freakish clearness??

PS I don't want to freak you guys out, but one was growing on my actual cheek. I'm 99% sure it has never grown back after furtive removal, but my eyes are mercifully getting worse at close-up focus. A total blessing.

Oh geez TR

My best advice for those that can't go the laser route is to carry a pair of tweezers in your car. The light is ALWAYS right to catch those stray hairs that get away in your makeup mirror!

Several years ago, Mr. T got me the most useful present I've ever received for my birthday. It's from Swiss Army Knife, but it's a credit card-sized thing that fits into your wallet. It has wee scissors, a nail file, all the usual things... and tweezers. When I show it to people, the women all lean forward. "Ooooo! I could use that!"
