I'm actually doing ok today. I've kind of come to terms with the situation. I'd be very happy for an unexpected miracle next week, but I am not expecting one. I'm mentally preparing myself for the m/c to start naturally or to possibly go D&C route if my doctor recommends it. I'll see him Wednesday after my ultrasound. He is a lovely person, he did my previous D&C and then was kind to me even though I was batshit crazy during my pregnancy with my daughter. I will feel better after I talk to him, I'm sure.

Well, I'm about to lose my damn mind. I had blood drawn on Wednesday and got my numbers back Thursday - HCG was 30,899 and progesterone was I think 16.1.

The nurse had told me that progesterone had to be sent out, but she didn't say HCG did, so when I went back on Friday for my draw, I asked the lady who took my blood and she said my HCG numbers might be back that day. So I called a couple of times and the nurse took my number and said she'd call me either way by the end of the day. She called at 5:00 and apologized, but the numbers weren't in.

So I of course waited all weekend, then waited and waited this morning. Called at 11:15 and the nurse told me that YES they have my numbers but she's not allowed to give them to me until the doctor signs off on them. But it should be "soon." Wait two hours and call back. Oh, your chart is locked, he's probably in there looking at it right now, give me your number and I'll call you back. That was almost two hours ago - it's 2:54 pm. I feel like I've aged ten years today. I'm just so fucking pissed right now.

Finally got my numbers back. My HCG fell a few hundred (points? not sure what the measurement is). Went from 30,899 on Wednesday to 30,596 on Friday. She said that my doctor said that at this point, with how far along I am, that might not necessarily mean anything since it wasn't a big drop, and we'll just have to wait until Wednesday. Does anyone have any experience with this? I mean, to me this just sounds like it's over and he's being cautious.

You are far enough along that the numbers plateau and then gradually decrease to a lower threshold that people stay at until after delivery. Generally a missed abortion the numbers decrease faster than that.

At this point you really need an ultrasound.

Purple jacket, does that generally happen at a certain point in gestation, or a certain numerical value? I was 8 weeks on Friday when they drew blood. I'm pretty solid on my dates as I was using ovulation predictor kits and I get very unmistakable ovulation pain, but the baby measured 6w6d on Wednesday with no heartbeat.

With my prior miscarriage we had 2 successful early ultrasounds and then no HB at 12 weeks so there was no need to do betas at that point. So I have no experience with what the numbers need to do. My progesterone was 30 at 4 weeks and is now 17.4.

There is a very wide range in numbers that this happens at usually towards the end of the first trimester. Wait for the ultrasound. I know it's difficult. ((hugs))

Jana I found something out from a Cousin's wife while she was pregnant (and very anxious, for good reason, about the outcome): the "pregnancy crisis" centers in most cities give free ultrasounds.

You do not have to pretend you are in crisis. They apparently have a quota or goal or some such for ultrasounds done a week, and she would just call and ask if she could have one, and they'd let her come in. She said they weren't nearly as preachy (I'm am trying very hard to avoid the religion/politics rule here, but want to make sure to convey she wasn't uncomfortable while there) as she thought they would be.

Could you call one, explain the situation, and go in for a scan? It's obviously not "official", but would give you more information while you wait for the "official" word.

At three miscarriages, you might insist on a D&C so they can do testing. I think 3, while way too many, is the magical number for most insurance companies to run all sorts of tests and possibly pinpoint the cause. Sometimes it's a treatable issue that with meds can get you past the first trimester.

landabear, that's very useful, thank you. My ultrasound is tomorrow though so I think I'll just wait, as it's snowing pretty heavily now and the roads are getting slick.

If this does go south, this will be my second miscarriage and I pray my last.
