Jack Daniels whiskey is probably the most popular export of TN.

And DS is a whiskey drinker!

Scrapple - ICK!

March 25 - Small town NY. Probably 3:00ish... Come on down! Looks like there will be plenty of food!

Taking notes--my son is talking about doing the trail, too.

I live right by the trail in VA. It comes in near Damascus which is a cool little trail town. They have an event in April, I think, called 'trail days' that celebrates the trail, through hikers, etc. Two of my employees have walked the trail and we have a beer at my brewery called "white blaze honey cream ale' named after the paint that marks the trail. I don't think April falls at the right time for a through hiker to be in Damacus, but a fun thought to think he could stop by and have one of my beers! My parents also live right next to a trail town that is VERY hiker friendly - Glasgow, VA. He will likely overnite there and have a hot shower. Sounds fun!

The "Happy Trails" party is Sunday so thought I would update you all with our menu:

Georgia - Peanut Trail Mix

Carolina - BBQ

Tennessee - Jack Daniels BBQ sauce

Virginia - Baked Ham

West VA - Pizza Roll

Maryland - Crab dip

PA - Woopie Pies

NJ - Salt Water Taffy

CT - Thin pizza bread (I'm going to cut it into breadsticks)

MA - Boston Baked Beans

VT - Ben & Jerry's (to include Willie Nelson Georgia Peach Cobbler)

NH - Fries & Gravy

Maine - Lobster Mac & Cheese

The best thing about this menu is most of it can be prepared the day before - and the things that can't are easy to throw together.

Thank you all for your input. He leaves in less than 2 weeks!

DS is so enjoying his adventure! He has just arrived in Damascus for Trail Days - Gomphus be on the lookout for a straggly hiker... oh wait... there's a lot of them! If you recognize him, take a pic for me!

Oh and his only trouble is having to spend the night in the drunk tank in Gaitlingsburg TN - apparently they give away free moonshine... then when a drunk hiker decides he needs to relieve himself on the sidewalk... well 1 night and $200 fine later he was back on the trail.

A couple of pics -

Sunrise @ NC/TN border

He has shared a lot of pics! Says he's lost prob 20 lbs already. Texted a pic of a "Lady Slipper" which is a very rare flower. Not actual pic, but the pic he sent looked just like this

He called me on Mother's Day and we will see him in about 4 weeks for his sister's wedding.
