Since wh hours at work have changed I decided to go do the mortgage payment yesterday so I wouldn't be out late tonight. Also thought I'd pick up some needed groceries.

I wear my black mask as usual.

Now wearing a mask takes away that smile at everyone thing I do. I smile but most people dont realize it. I've had to work on how I have my eyes so that I look welcoming instead of grumpy.

So this older gentleman was in line ahead of me waiting to get into the store. He kept turning around to look at me then turning away. I thought maybe he was going to ask where I got my black mask (actually apart of the winter hat I got). Everytime he looked at me i smiled, big bright eyes trying to make it obvious that I was smiling. He then turns and says "so are you done with all this crap yet?"

I reply that it is what it is. He turns away. Then back toward me then away. Hes impatient

standing in line. Finally he looks as if hes going to start talking again and ya know, I'm just not in the mood to deal with people bitching about waiting in line, I give him THE LOOK.

New talent: telling people to f off without having to actually say it OR have full facial expression if it. My eyes said it all. Lol

If I didn't have to go out ever I wouldn't and not because of the virus but because of all the people bitching about the virus. People are rude. People are gross (leaving used gloves and masks on the ground). People.....ugh!

So along with the Mom Look and the Pissed Off Wife Look (wh gets that one alot these days) I now have the Oh for the love of Christ stop bitching and f off Look.

I stay away from google cause I tend to get all paranoid ....for example I have bad pain in left breast. Google says I have cancer. But I actually got hit there and it's just damn sore. Today is a no bra day lol

Oh man. If I had winked that guy would have got all the wrong ideas...I'm sure. Lol

Apparently according to wh I do the eye roll really well.

Wearing a mask IS a pain because I wear glasses and they fog up. But without the glasses I cant see shit and that means I cant lip read to properly understand people. I have hearing loss on my left side. So I always watch people's mouth. If they are wearing a mask and I am too without my glasses it's hard for me to understand them.

Then again I'm not a chit chat type really and would rather get my stuff and leave. I have had to really overcome my OCD issues with regards to how I navigate the stores with one way arrows. I think I've done very well with that thus far. But dealing with people....I'm not going to succeed at that.

If you rub a little shaving cream foam on them and wipe it off, it helps a lot.

Hopefully the old man was wearing a mask???

Shaving cream? I'll try that!

No he wasnt wearing a mask. Most people werent. What most dont realize is that while it does offer some protection for yourself the main focus is protecting others.

IMO if people werent so gross and coughed and sneezed everywhere this virus wouldn't be spreading so much. I see adults just coughing without covering their face at all. Worse are the spitters. Oh they cough up some gunk then spit it.

I just lost my appetite for the rest of the day just thinking about that!

Come to think of it I must be able to say alot with just my eyes because the last time I went grocery shopping last week one guy kept looking at me. He was really tall but what frustrates me are men who wear pants around their damn knees then walk like they just got off a pregnant horse! Geez pull up your damn pants! I'm sure I had the "oh ffs" look. This guy being so tall had his legs spread so much just to keep the pants from falling around his ankles he was taking up more space than was needed. And I wanted something on the shelf where he was.

I'm really just not a people person.

dragn - you are finding out a secret those of us in the medical community have closely guarded for many years.

The mask covers up a lot and you can fake a lot w/ it on.

Also did you know you can mouth fuck you you fucking fuck with it on, and no one knows that is what you are saying? It's a great stress reliever.

So the biggest advantage of masks is that no one will ever need a face lift ever again. The mask hides all that saggy skin.

Seeing as I heard on the radio that people were paying up to $500 for a hair cut in secret I doubt having to wear a mask will eliminate the desire to get plastic surgery. People are just way to focused on looks.

I've seen some very cool masks.

Way back when I ordered wh the face shields he saw online. They all make it look like you have a skeleton jaw or something like that. He used them for winter face protection. Now he using them as a covid mask at work.

I think no matter what I have on my face my eyes will always give away what I'm thinking or mouthing under my mask lol

In some masks they have a thin metal strip over the bridge of the nose that you push on and it makes it conform to your face. That stops air from coming out the top of the mask and not be filtered.

If you try with your mask and push the mask against the sides of your nose you will see that the glasses will no longer fog up and you get a safer and more complete filtering of your breath.

If you can find a thin strip of metal (The twists on the bread loafs might work although you will probably have to twist a few together to get them stiff enough to hold shape) and put them in the top fold of the mask. When you put your mask on press the wire to follow the sides of your nose, if it stays that way than the wire(s) are stiff enough, if not see if you can make it a little stiffer.

I read that one good source of metal strips for homemade masks is to cut them from a disposable aluminum casserole dish. Just be careful of the edges as you fit them in between your mask layers, because they'll be sharp.

I used lightweight, bendable floral wire in mine, but I had it kicking around already.

I'm really no good at sewing. My mother has made masks for her and my father. I might request one or two from her. I dont want to cut my current mask as it attaches to my winter toque hat and I love it for use in the winter. Its thick and warm.

I saw a post from the deaf services club page on fb of clear masks for the hard of hearing so they can still see someone's mouth.

I'm doing my big grocery shop today. I'm just not going to wear my glasses.

My MIL sewed a bunch and she used heavy duty pipe cleaners for the nose piece. Work well.

Wearing a mask IS a pain because I wear glasses and they fog up.

Another tip for the glasses is to rub liquid hand soap onto them, rinse the soap off with hot water and pat dry with a clean towel. I did that yesterday for my trip out grocery shopping and it worked like a charm.

I'm really just not a people person.

Neither am I. At all. (You may have seen some of my rants recently )

I'm really no good at sewing.

Neither am I! I made masks for BF13 and I out of a t-shirt, coffee filter and hair ties...no sewing required!! The fuckin thing is so bloody thick no one can hear me cursing them out even if I try yelling at them! And, as an added bonus, by the time I'm half way around the store my face is sweating profusely, from the thickness of the mask, that people avoid me like the plague

I'm sure you could make some of the no-sew masks too! There's instructions online, and they're pretty easy to make. Oh, and if you don't want them super thick like mine turned out, just use a thinner t-shirt!
