Love, love, love my heated floors in the master bath that I was convinced to install after asking the SI peeps.
Now I'm looking at flooring options for the master bedroom. I have hardwood flooring downstairs and really love the convenience with two pets. The master bedroom is also down so installing hardwoods would carry the space visually which really appeals to me. However I'm concerned about the lack of warmth in a bedroom environment.
Anybody have - or had -hardwoods in the bedroom? Thoughts?

Have had it and would do it again in a heartbeat. You can always add softness with an area rug.

My bedrooms are carpeted but only because we were only working with so much flooring allowance and I went end of the roll for the bedrooms to get exactly what I wanted for the open living room/dining room/hallway area.
That being said, I love hardwood in a bedroom but would also want a lovely rich colour and a nice floor rug for where my feet hit the floor first thing in the morning. I think by accenting with a rug you still get a cozy warm vibe and can buy something that picks up the colour in the hardwood to make it pop. I love a cherry finish
Go softly my sweet friend. You will always be a part of who I am.

I'll wait to hear what the SI peeps say. We put hardwood down in the main rooms and hallways of the house. I have quite a bit of leftover wood. Almost enough to do the master bedroom floor.
You could put down area rugs for warming feet.
Hugs,
K

p.s.: hardwoods in the bedroom are VERY helpful if you are an allergy sufferer (as I am).

I recently put hardwood down due to cats and allergies. I was afraid I would have cold feet. I love it! I haven't had a chance to put rugs down yet, but wearing socks to bed is a small price for getting rid of the stinky dusty carpet.

We have hardwood floors in two of our bedrooms and the photography studio and I LOVE them! We have area rugs in the bedrooms and that helps to keep things warmer, in the winter
Good luck!

Depends on the kind of bed I have as to hardwood vs carpet.
When we had a bed with castors and moved to a house with hardwood floors the bed actually rolled around during... um... activities.
We have a platform bed now that wouldn't move unless an elephant pushed it... so I would do hardwood again...
We have carpet right now because I haven't gotten around to changing it.

We had all bedroom and living carpet replaced with hardwood several years ago.
Love it! So easy to care for. With 3 cats I do go through a lot of swiffer pads.

No guarantee here, but I am pretty sure there are now heated floors available for under hardwood and laminate as well.

We have hardwood in our bedroom. We have an area rug and I keep my slippers right next to the bed so I slip my feet in them before they hit the floor. I think the floors look really pretty in a bedroom.
DS, you are forever in my heart. Thank you for sharing your beautiful spirit with me. I will always try to live by the example you have set. I love you and miss you every day and am sorry you had to go so soon, it just doesn't seem fair.

I never liked carpet in general and love hardwood. I have walked barefoot everywhere since I was a kid so cold floors aren't a huge issue to me. GL with your decision.

Thanks for all the input.
Wow...overwhelmingly in favor of hardwood. For some reason that's not what I had expected.
I'm now really heavily leaning toward the hardwood. While not really an allergy sufferer, I am kind of a clean phobic when it comes to carpet. It's the thought that I cannot really get the dirt out - at least not like with hardwoods.
Heated hardwoods - really? Wow. I will have to research this.
Now I guess it will mostly depend on cost. We had a pipe to burst in the forementioned recently remodeled bathroom -
which is why we are considering the different flooring in the bedroom.
I dont yet know the status of the beloved heated floors.

Ripped out the existing W2W carpeting in our bedroom a couple years ago, and put down Trafficmaster by Allure flooring. A friend had recommended it as being tough and very, very easy to put down. In our case, the flooring was going down over slab (BR's in the part of the house w/o a crawlspace...we're in the South). My research indicated that putting hardwood flooring down over slab was inadvisable, FWIW.
Love it, love it, love it! Looks so much better, and we have area rugs as well...plus 3 large dog beds
I like the idea that you can change out area rugs if you want or need to. I also REALLY love that if I am awakened in the middle of the night by the unmistakable sound of a dog getting ready to launch something from its stomach, I don't have to drag out the Little Green Machine instead of having just a simple clean-up.
The one downside is that one shoe or slipper (depending on what I'm searching for) always seems to wind up way under the center of the bed.

We added on our master bedroom and dressing room two years ago and at the last minute continued the hallway hardwood into the master. Best decision ever. Love it I have large rug under the bed and I've never had cold feet once.

Sad12008,
I have a monolithic concrete slab. When we researched hardwood, we were told not to do a floating installation, to glue the boards to the concrete. We did. It's been 11 years since the hardwood's been down. Not a problem. Even when the washer over flowed and ran down the hardwood hallway.. a mop took care of it. Well that and running the AC non stop to pull out moisture.
