Years ago, WH and I saw a MC.

When I brought up WH’s predilection for cheating, he said “ That’s to be expected, as your husband has Asperger’s”

Now, prior to that visit, it was not mentioned, nor at any IC, MC, or even doctor’s appointments.

Is there a correlation between Asperger’s and Infidelity?

Not that I've ever heard. WTH? Sounds like just another lame excuse.

I have a friend with Asperger's and he hasn't cheated. I know other people with mental health issues who have not cheated.

Hey 20yrs,

Omg! Marriage counselors are the least educated in terms of psychology... I swear to God they are joke in the psychology world. I believe there is someone here that claimed an MC actually made some vague diagnosis of a husband being on spectrum...crazy. Most ICs arent qualified to make such a diagnosis, let alone a MC clown.

This is old school mentality. For a lot of years people on spectrum were thought to lack empathy and that has been debunked.

I suspect I am (diagnosed ADD) on spectrum. Autistic people do not cheat any more than anyone else....there is so much misinformation about people on spectrum. It is a fact that they have a higher rate of being abused and taken advantage of. It is also a fact that the vast majority have higher levels of empathy than average people. They are extremely reserved and have a hard time expressing themselves out of fear of judgment of others. As they age, some learn to mask some of the issues and aquire appropriate knowledge in terms of social skills, but prefer not to engage. They tend to have a hard time holding down employment due to the alienation of their peers, co-workers and management.

If anything, I would be brave enough to say they are the least likely to cheat due to the empathy and especially because they prefer not to socialize. As you know, they are beyond introverted. Unfortunately you ended up with someone that decided to take advantage of your good nature and it is bullshit. I honestly question the woman he cheated with. She must have threw herself at him. People on spectrum seem to see past these social ques or decide to ignore them altogether. They find them trite and uncomfortable.

Unfortunately the entertainment industry seems to confuse their audience with certain characters.

The people on t.v. shows (lacking empathy) are confused with autism actually show more signs of being schizoid or narcisstic.

There is a belief that people on the spectrum have less empathy. However, lack of empathy, by itself, isn't why most cheaters cheat.

People on the spectrum also tend to be extremely literal. Among other things, wedding vows generally include express promises of fidelity.

Hi 20yrsago,

My husband does not have Asperger's so I can't specifically comment on that. However, if you go to the "I can relate" forum and read some of the earlier pages of the most recent thread on Emotionless Infidelity you'll find several BS' who did have partners with Asperger's. This thread may have more helpful information for you.

Asperger's or not, this whole thing sucks.....

I’m a nurse, but my specialty is not Behavioral Health.

Thank you for your feedback.

I do not believe my Cheater has Asperger’s.

I think some people are just rotten, and refuse to blame it on a disorder

Unless it’s Fecalcephaly
