sadtoo - I live in Iowa, too. And now I'm hoping it's nowhere near your mouse hotel.

My kids are so excited. It snowed last night and has stayed all day. It's my DD's bday and she says the snow was a birthday present just for her. We have a houseful of teenagers since about 4 pm and they have mostly played outside.

GiGi loves the snow too.

ETA: last time we had snow in southwest Louisiana was 4-5 years ago (I think) and it didn't actually stay on the ground long enough to play in.

Nik,

I don't know....Western, central Iowa. They're field mice. And I'm surrounded by corn fields. It's like one or two went and told all their friends, "Hey! come stay with us. There's food & bedding, and it's warm!!"

Ugh!!

I don't want to use poison because of my dogs. So I guess if DS can't round up Mr. Slithers and ship him up here. I'll need to get a couple barn cats.

I totally feel you!

I hate winter so much.

I live in Montreal and when I left home to go to work yesterday morning it was -27 C...

Today it's -7 so it is not so bad.

I just hate putting on my Sorel boots, winter coat, scarf, mittens and hat every day.

I just want to hibernate until spring.

I try to ;lift my spirits by playing salsa music and drink wine.

Kind of a topic jump on the mice. My dog (or maybe my sisters) killed a baby mouse and left it outside at the cottage this summer. We didn't see it but we assume it was the dogs.

Anyway, I did the typical "Ew. Mouse" and then made this face..

Why? Because the cottage is on an island. How the heck did it get there? The island is about an acre. I don't know how long it would take to walk from shore when the ice is in, but I would assume about 30 minutes to an hour. That's a long time for a mouse.. to travel over ice, then hide until spring, and have babies.

We also found rat poison in the shed. When we bought the place this summer they left everything in it. So we have to assume at some point there is rats. Dear god do not let me see a rat.

Go softly my sweet friend. You will always be a part of who I am.

I love the winter. I love the snow. I'm from the Northeast originally, but have lived here near Chi-beria for 21 years....and this is my least favorite winter ever. It's just the wave after wave of rain follwed by subzero temps....making pipes explode, black ice errwhere, the constant dusting of 2 inch snowfalls that require constant shovelling, and the fricking wind that cuts through all layers and freezes your tears to your face. No lie, I walked to PIggly-Wiggly the other day, and the wind made my eyes tear up, and then froze them.

It's in the 50s and bright and sunny. Our snow is melting. I loved our one day of snow but not enough to live where you do FacePunched. I'm way too much of a sissie for that.

So sorry, I didn't see the comments about Mr. Slithers.

We think he's still living under the fountain and hibernating right now. I'm hoping when he wakes up he'll be slow moving and I'll shoot his fucking head off

ok...no I won't. But I WANT to.

Meta - I'm guessing the mouse/rats originally got to the island on a boat.

sadtoo - Other end of the state here. And I'm surrounded on all sides by bean fields, but I don't have a barn or any hay to deal with.

lynn - That looks heavenly. Save me the seat next to you?

We're under a blizzard warning starting tonight, with deadly wind chills on tap for Monday morning. Blergh.

No!! Put him in an overnight COD box and ship him up here to me! Just turn a pillow case inside out and put it on your arm like a glove. Then grab him and reverse the pillow case. Whoo-lah! Mr. Slithers in a sack and ready to travel!

Wouldn't he love it up here in cold Iowa??

NIK,

I heard about your blizzard. Yuck. I hope you keep it over there. And thank goodness my barn (aka the mouse motel ) is far from my house.

I was speaking to my mom last night--she lives in Phoenix. It was 8pm, she was sitting on the patio, and she had to take off her sweater because she was too warm. Then I open FB and my friend in Tucson had posted pics of her daughter wearing shorts, outside playing with the dogs.

I had spent Saturday at a winter festival in snow and below 0F windchills--but I loved it! I am enjoying the snow after a 23-year hiatus. I'm NOT enjoying pothole weather--neither is my car.

Warning this post is a Rant!!!

OK so I have seen 4 patients today, and ALL of them are struggling with respiratory stuff could it be because last week it was 56 one day and 9 the next, and yesterday was 59 (yes 59, so warm I worked all day in the woods cutting wood) and today, when I woke up and it was 11, and dropped all the way to 9 before I left the house?

This is ridiculous, and let us not forget that us Midwesterners who heat with Propane, are getting screwed because there is "Increased demand, and shortage" due to us sending propane overseas. So Now my vacation fund gets robbed to keep my house a balmy 60 for another month.

I am done!!!!
