He had metal in him 4 days ago? Was this mentioned previously? Yikes. Could he have eaten something metal??

Take care of yourself, WR. Eat. Rest. Reach out for support.

Bring up your c-diff concerns.

In the nursing home, we automatically put anyone on an antibiotic on yoghurt because we didn't need a doctor's permission (usually).

There are plenty of different ways to reduce the risk of c-diff. Just bring it up over and over until you are satisfied with the answer.

And try not to be an aggressive rude cow like me!

Most hospitals have Cdiff prevention protocol because it is such a difficult thing to treat and cure. So ask about it, if they put him on probiotics as well.

Let's talk turkey here.

Are his vitals stable?

Where is the metal and why hasn't this been discussed prior to today? Did they see it before? Is it possible that it's part of any of his devices/lift pads etc?

What are his pressures running, and are they giving meds to help it?

Why is he still in the ED and not ICU?

I have already brought up c-diff. To an actual doctor. She just shrugged and said that yes, sadly, because they are overly precautious / concerned about sepsis, they go on the antibiotics, and sadly, that isn’t a good thing pertaining to c-diff.

His mom died of c-diff after being in this hospital in ICU with bilateral pneumonia and getting buttloads of antibiotics.

Vitals not terribly stable. Goes from 165/95 - 220/185

Pulse ox is 97-99

Pulse 85-95

He has had meds for blood pressure twice.

When he came in March...scan showed no object.

When he came in August - no object.

Last week it was there, and we were not told.

Today it was still there, but has moved. The doctor seemed encouraged. “Well, at least it is moving.”

No idea if it is smal intestine or colon.

One doctor said there would be a total prep and then scope. Have t seen her, though, for over 9 hours.

Been here 12 hrs now.

They say he is going to a room, but many people are waiting.

I am so cold that I got my sister to bring us blankets from home. Haven’t eaten in 2 days.

(Don’t get me wrong...I could live off the “lay of the land” for a good while)...but

I’m starving.

But I know the second I leave, they will come in with information or to ask questions, or to take him somewhere, and he is sort of sleeping due to the morphine.

At least he is comfortable... if you consider a hospital ER bed, freezing to death, not moving, and machines beeping in the background “comfortable“.

OMG ((((WR)))) !!!!!!!!!

WTF is going on?? I'm so sorry you (and he) are suffering through all this. Metal object in gastro-intestinal system?? WTF????????????

Sorry for all the cursing, I'm just freaked out about this latest turn of events. And if they already knew he had some metal inside why the FUCK did they send him home??

Is there a better hospital around? These people seem to have no clue and in any case aren't communicating with you. You DESERVE to understand and to be kept in the loop.....

Hang in there - sending you love, mojo and positive, healing thoughts.

Did you ask what the size is, or ask them to show you what they are seeing? I would. What could it be, is it possible that it's instrumentation from his spine (assuming he had some sort of spinal surgery upon injury).

BP is fine, high to normal, not what you see in sepsis, so the abx are working. Do they suspect an obstruction, or perforation? Why do they think he is septic? Sounded septic when EMS had them, but again a lot of times they can't get good readings in the field, especially if they are using auto cuffs (I hate those things).

Seems like you aren't really getting any answers. Why scope him if it's moving? Why did they not mention it on his weekend admission?

Time to advocate for him, and demand some answers..... Lastly is it possible that he is self sabotaging, swallowed something because he is reaching a new road in his treatment?

I thought of this too but tushy is right. The only way you're going to know what happened is by asking more questions and advocating for him.

Lately he has grown to appreciate not being on so many drugs. I feel certain he wouldn’t do it on purpose.

Rings slip off his fingers, but both are accounted for.

I totally plan to ask questions if I ever see another dr.

14 hrs now.

He is taking it better than me.

The metal is weird and concerning. I'd be worried about it preforating the bowel but am not experienced with that so file this under Nervous Nelly rather than Educated Experience!

Keep us posted and at least find a vending machine.

Too much to explain everything.

Reader’s digest:

In the ER for 35 hours. I shit you not. (Same problem my H has!). I have humor left if nothing else! 😊

They are concerned about sepsis. Also, giving meds that Google says are directed at c-diff. BP goes from way high to too low. Also, pulse races.

They have given him MiraLAX to help him go to the bathroom. What??? 17g of MiraLAX is what we give to him every day for maintenance. So the doc (beautiful, seemingly intelligent woman from Egypt, but a bit hard to understand ) says they are going to give him several large bags of serious - clean you out like Mr. Clean kind of stuff (my words) and then scope him.

FINALLY they have a room for us. A nurse practioner for the gastroenterologist comes in and I want to hug her! She is compassionate, no nonsense, asks questions, and LISTENS to answers. (I’m sorry to sound boastful about my knowledge, or critical of some medical professionals who know DIDDLY SQUAT about spinal cord injury’s).

Anyway, this woman did listen and problem solve, and within 45 minutes of speaking to her, my H was getting an endoscopy as well as scoping a bit into the small intestines. Also removed the NG tube which my H HATED.

Dr said the narrowing base of the stomach and the first part of the small intestine were both measurably widened, enlarged, dilated. Said he removed liquid and gas from those spots and did a biopsy just to test for Ciliac disease. Said he didn’t believe he had it, but just wanted to check.

Said his damage due to reflux was improved.

So, they continue to give him little cute amounts of MiraLAX but no mention of a SUPER CLEANING to prepare for a colonoscopy. I plan to ask about that next time the nurse comes in - to see if it’s scheduled.

My H says he isn’t aware of any scope, but thought the dr was talking about the big cleansing in order to recover the metal object. I saw the X-ray and it is clear as day. They say it should pass, but I’m concerned it could be impressed into the lining of the colon and could eventually push through.

At least he got the nasal tube out. And is resting peacefully.

So....way too much info regarding my H’s colon.

I’m staying tonight so I won’t miss the doc in the a.m. sometimes they come at the butt crack of dawn!

Thanks for hanging in there with me on this.

My “I believe in fairies” wish is that they find something wrong (not too serious) that explains the intestinal issues AS WELL AS the chronic, severe, abdominal pain.

Or...if not, that we can at least figure out the best answer for intestinal issues...

Or at the very least, retrieve the ring from his intestines, and realize it’s the Hope Diamond! It would be worth sorting through...well...you know!

I love y’all! ❤️

I’m trying to keep a sense of humor through all of this, but TBH I’m pretty scared.

Y’all are helping to keep me sane!!! 🥰🥰🥰

Thanks for the support...it really helps.

This morning he has been screaming and moaning for about 3 hours. The pain is horrible. A suppository got results, but the pain is no better. And he exacerbates it by getting all wound up to the point that I can’t calm him.

They won’t give him any more morphine for fear it is constipating. Yet he just...well...it wasn’t constipation.

He is screaming.

The dr has not shown up, even though she knows his condition.

I have a Xanax prescription that I haven’t used in 6 months or so. I give to my dog when it storms.

I want to take one (or 5) but I have to be 100% clear when (if) the doctor comes.

I don’t know what to do. About his situation. About the doctors. About my sanity.
