Way late to this conversation but it's one I can't ever step away from without sharing a few hundred words as to my thoughts on it (and there's are probably at least 22,000 floating around my head).

Fuck yes, I love receiving (and giving) oral sex. In general as someone else mentioned earlier it is like pizza and even when it's really bad it's still worth it. The only real exception to this would be in those cases where the giver has difficulty bringing me to a finish with her mouth and I can tell no matter what I say or do it's a blow to her ego. Thoughts on Preferences.
1) Man Standing - woman on the knees. Excellent for blowjobs that are meant to be either quick finishers, aggressive, and/or are done as lead in it's to aggressive (usually male dominate position heavy) sex. Usually not great for BJ's that are meant to be a little slower as the positioning usually isn't the most comfortable for an extended period of time.
2) Man Standing/kneeling - Women on all fours (preferably naked 
. This style gives an excellent visual presentation especially for those among the male population that are drawn towards a woman's backside and/or if your man really likes 's doggy style. Like 1) not great for an extended period of time as the positions aren't ones that are generally comfortable being in for extended periods of time. because of difficulty with aiming/lining up comfort this one isn't perfect for all partners and placement of pillows can be very helpful (adjustable height beds can be helpful here as well). If your not lining it up properly teeth scrapes (not the good kind) can happen pretty easily.
3) Man sitting - Woman Kneeling - Probably the most versatile of positions and pretty much equally prefered for slow roasters all the way up to In-and-out drive through servicings. I think this is the ideal position for making eye contact and if you are comfortable enough to do it dirty talk. I've had partners in the past who added in a strip tease to this and it's worked wonders (starting off fully or mostly clothed and then stripping down to lingerie or less). The place where this position really shines IMO if it's done as a lead in to more female dominate positions especially if and when dirty talk can be carried over. Excellent if you plan on or like to add in some Congo Bongos to the creative process here.
4) Man laying down. I often have difficulty finishing quickly in this position personally (though I've heard with others this isnt't necessarily the case). For that reason I would only suggest this position for a faster pace if you are planning on giving either a short lead-in to sex aggressive bj or having some pretty incredible stamina because it can be a marathon to get the finish line.
4.01) Lean close and listen up here because I started a NEW bullet point for a reason. The following is absolutely my favorite and I've only ever had two competent 4.01 partners and that would be out of...well let's just say a few more than most I would imagine. Same position as 4) really shines when performing a slow-burn heavy tease handjob combination blowjob that can build up slightly at times but eventually the slow teasing causing a buildup in tension to the point I just can't stand to hold it in another instant that leads to some of my all-time most powerful finishes (seriously take a step back if I give warning). For doing something that could potentially take so long you aren't going to get worn out and the times when you do use anything from the slightest flick of the tonge, to dip a toe in and test the water, all the way up to a full sword-swallowing trick and seeing how long you can hold your breathe before you pass out, it will have that much more of an impact. As it was explained to me the hand is ideally being you used primairly to keep the tension of arousal present through massage and one way to build up tension/relieve it would be through a good firm (not death) grip around the base of the penis.
I dated a girl for over two years that had her tease it out technique down to an artform. Talk about controling someone else? She twice teased me through my boxers well enough that I didn't even get them off (at least until I had a solid snack/water break and regrouped) before we were finished. Other notes?
Stuff that CAN have a big impact.
-Eye Contact
-Understanding your partner's erogenous zones
-Mix-it-up! in terms of which position, speed, overall technique etc. and even for me 4.01) needs to be done in moderation. Repeating the same pattern of anything over and over again can lessen the impact.
-Know your audience Dirty Talk (I've had some things said that were just waaaaaay out of bounds for me that had the opposite effect and some things that would be way out of bounds for others that had a great effect)
-I would say it's usually a good idea to incorporate your hands in some fashion or another it doesn't have to be the mano/mouth combo like in 4.01) exactly but that's a decent template to start from. Another favorite of mine was a partner who liked to wear long nails and tease with them. At one point while in 1) she really ramped up the intensity volume when she went really hard and fast and started gripping my ass like she was trying to force me deeper down her throat.
-Deepthroating - If you can do this it really does feel incredible but if you can't or can only take doing it a few times that's fine as well. DO NOT PUSH it. There's nothing wrong with the standardized way of doing things and 4.01) was achievable without it so it's not the here all end all of blowjobbing that I've heard some pronounce it as being.
