and while we're at it, lets talk tattoos also.

I was at the coffee shop after work and the girl behind the counter had a piercing above her lip.

The man behind me....with a very strong southern accent asked if that was a trend "up here". I asked where he was from and he said St. Louis.

He then told me, "Where I'm from, we don't do that."

Facial piercings of are so normal that I don't even notice them most of the time.....unless there are more than 3.

I didn't even notice the girl's lip until he pointed it out.

So, is it true? Do people in other places frown upon facial piercings....nose, lip, eyebrow, bridge, septum, labret, etc., etc......

The only piercings I have are in my ears....but I have 4 in each.

At one point, my bff's DD had (I think, 12).

What about tattoos? I have several.

CD... I don't have a clue about St. Louis, but here in Florida facial piercings are quite normal.

I currently have 11 holes in my face that were man made.

I have a nostril stud, a septum, tongue barbell, three holes in each ear lobe and an industrial... with more planned in my ears.

Tattoos are pretty common down here as well...

I think maybe this St. Louis guy just recently pulled his head out of the dark place and started noticing things...

Well, I can't say if I've noticed in other parts of the US because, well, I don't notice. It just seems not so out of the ordinary anymore. Almost every time I turn around, someone is pierced or tattooed. It doesn't bother me in the slightest and I think that just because I see it all the time, I simply don't see it anymore.

I took DS4 for a haircut today and the woman cutting his hair had a piercing in her face. It was on the side of her mouth, kind of an odd placement once I noticed it. I didn't notice it at all, though, until DS4 asked why she had a shiny thing on her face.

I myself have my ears pierced (one hole in one and two in the other) and 1 tattoo.

Yeah, that's kind of what I thought.

My BFF's DD and I would joke about it all the time. Every time I saw her I'd make a show out of counting her piercings to see if they had multiplied. It was all in fun.

So I was pretty surprised that one tiny lip piercing was shocking to him.

I would hardly notice one tiny lip piercing.

Also, it's quite common among professionals, not just baristas...

Several of my colleagues (teachers) have various "unique" piercings.

Our speech/language pathologist had a stud right between her shoulder blades on her back... I don't know how she did that... looked painful to me. Most of us hide the really out there ones from the kids.

Moving upward - that is what I was thinking about myself!

I had to google what jrc's "industrial" is (ouch!).

Piercings/tattoos are pretty common here. I just don't understand them especially on people who have beautiful flawless skin (which I don't have so sometimes I am like "oh how could she.....").

I'm sure some places don't have pierced people like other places do.

I don't even have pierced ears. I'll never poke a hole in my body!

I live near St. Louis. He's not watching very carefully.

Still, I will admit, being the age I am, that I would actually prefer my food servers to be un-inked and un-pierced. My universal reaction is "Why would he/she do that? It's ugly and unsanitary."

Please note that the actual ugliness and sanitary impact is irrelevant to my feelings.

And get off my lawn! too.

Take care of yourself. There's a great future out there. It won't come to you; you have to go to it.

Piercing and tattoos gross me out - I'm in SoCal..very common here - however, I can't stand seeing it..it just grosses me out.

If we are in a restaurant and the server has crap hanging off her face or giant holes in her earlobes that we can see through...we get up and leave..and we tell the mgr why we are leaving. It really grosses me out when the server plays with the stud in her tongue with her tongue and I can't understand what the hell she is trying to convey to me.

I don't care what people are trying to express with these all over the body tattoos and piercings... it totally grosses me out. If I really wanted to see this, I'd open a National Geographic magazine and see the natives in some remote village with bones and twigs through their lips...grossed me out in 4th grade..grosses me out now.

I can't wait to see how these people look when they're old and the tattoos are sagging, faded and the piercing have become gaping holes...even grosser...ugh.

tatts don't bother me ... I have one ... it is easily hidden for work as it's on my ankle and my scrubs cover it ...

if they are not tasteful or tacky or could be offensive to others and they are visible an you work with the gen public ... health care walmart wherever ... you should prolly cover em at while on the clock ...

piercings I don't really care I guess ... I don't think they belong in certain professions because they are a risk ... but if tasteful in nature & in number IDC ...

If the place you go to work has policies that you don't like or make it hard to comply with ... then don't work there, go elsewhere ...

I want more tatts ... I wanna finish out the one I have ...

It does get easier

I don't like them, tats or facial piercings, thankfully our kids don't have any.

Depends on the piercing. A simple nose stud or cartilage piercing doesn't bother me. I really don't like the gaping holes in the ears or a lot of the facial piercings on most people. They look painful for one thing!

Tattoos are about the same, no a real fan but if they are well done then whatever. It isn't my body so while I might not like it who cares? It doesn't affect me, though I would prefer my doctor not have anything I can see!

I live in a metropolitan suburb and piercings and tattoos are very common here. I have friends that have both or either and I don't think less of them for it. I am just conservative in my personal adornments. I just have pierced ears.

I'd rather my kid rebel by getting pierced than by getting inked, because piercing is temporary if you want it to be.

Florida here, and they are common.

Piercings are not in and of themselves attractive to me, though if I was a Young these days I would be intrigued if a guy had his tongue or junk pierced. For Reasons.

I do think some tattoos are attractive. Like say on Adam Levine, who I think would be less hot without them.

I work at a college, so tattoos and piercings abound! I actually think the piercings have gotten less outlandish in recent years, other than the plugs, which I think are kind of gross. I don't mind most tattoos or piercings - to each their own. I do think having tattoos all over your neck and face is just too much.

I only have pierced ears - two holes each. I am contemplating a couple of small tattoos - just haven't done it yet.

I have my nose and ears pierced, as well as a tattoo. For work, I don't wear earrings and I wear a clear stud in my nose. Do3K also has piercings...his ears are gauged to a 0, he also has a tongue ring and his nips are pierced, as well as three tattoos. Both of us have plans to get more tattoos and he is going to get a few more piercings.

Tats and piercings are very common where we live

Don't feel to bad sharim, I just had flashbacks to old machine shop safety films. I know I guy who had one hand pierced right through the palm, but that was done with a nail gun. Really nice job too, when he pulled it out there was no bleeding at all.

Moo you can't be a rebel after going over to the dark side. It clearly said so in the purple crayon back when you filled out your application.

Personally I am expecting a lot of cases of mistaken identity like this in my future:

The Dead Collector: I dunno, must be a king.

The Dead Collector: He hasn't got shit all over him.

Yeah but when I am old and my tatts are faded or wrinkled or sagging I will look at them and think, "Damn! I effing enjoyed my life!"

My ink and piercings are for me. I like them and I honestly don't give a crap what other people think about them.

Though in truth unless I told you about my tatts you wouldn't even know I had them. Again because they're for me.

i can see someone from a smaller town being surprised by piercings.

tattoos are so common, i feel like im the only one without one! I'd love to get one, but worry about committing to something on my body forever. I really like good tattoos, well thought out ones. I dislike ones that are not done well or don't take into consideration where they are placed.

I think Kat von D is beautiful!

I worry about gauges (the big ear piercings). They look like they will rip. I also worry when i see a person with heavy "regular" earrings.
