Tell me what techniques you use for locating your Wayward spouse and is it accurate/
I am using the google maps timeline and it is not always accurate, at least here in Canada it is not.
I know cause I have tested it my self.
The location seems to guess which road you are on based on what tower your signal is coming off of.
Which could mean that my WH is driving by her house, or someone else's, or taking the route that I requested. I would like to be able to confirm.
Or techys is this the way they all work? My GPS on my car seems to know EXACTLY where I am. Unfortunately he does not have a GPS in his truck to check the route history.
I understand that I shouldn't need to track him but I do a check once in a while to build the trust.
ETA he has an iPhone, I have an android.

I have Family Map with At and T because my husband has an Android. Sometimes it’s off. I know this because I will be on the phone with him at his office and he will show up as being in a river near his building.
With my kids we all have iPhones so they’re pretty accurate down to almost the address location.

Do you have iPhones? If you both do, there is a way to share your location with each other. I can click on WW anytime and it gives a precise GPS location of where she is.
I don't do it frequently, but occasionally. For peace of mind.
Your WS has to be on board with this also, of course. But if he ever turns off tracking it will notify you.

If you both have iPhones you can use the "find my friends" feature. I also use Life 360. I actually use these on my teens. It seems most if not all tracking devices get weird. I like having both so that I can double check the location if something looks off.
With Life360 you can see the past and with Find my Friends I believe it is only in real time.
Both apps work well but both have said my oldest son was at a different location than he really was. BUT, if it is in real time, I can double check the apps against each other.

I use Find Friends on iphone and it's usually pretty close, but not 100%. I find the accuracy is improved if WH has his wifi on as well as his data.
Could you buy a portable GPS for his truck if it would provide you with some peace of mind?

We use Life360 for the whole family. It works pretty well, but is off sometimes. My fCH actually thought I was cheating once because it showed me at a residence when I was at a restaurant across town.

Thank you all.
I will look at the life 360.
I should have said,
I have an android and he has an iPhone.
I tried sharing location but we had to renew every 3 days.
Wasn't very handy.
We are not set up on the cloud for his iPhone it was an old work phone and just about ready for a new one and will go with an android when he changes.
I would go for the portable GPS but I would rather that he not know. I don't want him to know I am checking really, I am not trying to modify his behaviour (ie, I won't do that or she will see on the tracker) I want know that on his own free will he is acting as he lets on he is.

I rely on google location history which is pretty good. But knowing location is only half the story. I augment that with on demand remote video monitoring from the phone.

I use shared location service in our iPhones. It’s usually pretty accurate but it can bounce around. It has shown him in places that he wasn’t.
I also sign on to his iCloud account and use the find my iPhone app to check too. Basically the same thing.
I have had to double check a few times for my sanity when it was showing he was somewhere else. The thoughts jumping around in my brain were torturing me so I had to confirm. I have not caught him lying about that and 5 years later he is still making sure I know where he is and if he is changing locations.

I used to use google location, but find it not as accurate as life 360. Having said that, life 360 has shown a few odd results too, such as him moving from one place to another when he shouldn't have been. Is this if it loses the location in one place, then picks it up in another? I don't know. On one occasion it showed him as 'moving' and going right down the path of a road, which I am extremely suspicious of.
I'm guessing that if he puts his phone into airplane mode, ie no data transmitted or received, the locators wouldn't work and would just show him as being still at his last location? Someone more intelligent than me would have to confirm or deny that though.

I live in a rural(ish) area - nearby to two bigger cities. It works fine for both.
My Son lives in a bigger city 2.5 hours away and it shows where he is with 50 feet. If that helps.

thanks mamadragon. it is in the country that I have noticed the problem.
Shows him correct at point A and point B but it guesses at the route and one or 2 roads over could be a deal breaker.
But I know it shows it wrong as I have had his phone and personally travelled the route and it simply guessed at which route we took, and it was wrong.

If you have Allstate auto insurance, they have an app that tracks your routes, and it is perfect. Free also (and you earn points for free stuff)!
Maybe see if your auto insurance company has such a thing.

Could he have a fake locator app on his phone? These app developers seem like they're always right on BS's heels with new cheating apps. Either way, the app will send a fake location out.
I teach people how to treat me by what I will allow.

We use life 360. It shows past locations and you can set it to tell you when they leave or return to a location. There's also extra features that cost but it'll tell you if they're using the phone while driving and a few other things. I think if they're hands free it doesn't tell you though, but if they open an app or something you'll get an alert. It's fairly accurate. We've had a few glitches but that's technology for you. We both have Androids.
Edited to add: it also tells me the battery life of the phone so if he says my phone was dead I can check. It also sends alerts if the phone goes below 15%.

You can download the Goole maps data. It shows it in a crappy form, but that doesn't matter. From there you can load it in Google Earth and it can give you a 3D view of there day.
Here's the thing my WW still doesn't know, you can find out the hotel room number if you're patient and look at the data well enough.

My GPS shows real time and even shows the vehicle in the parking lot - he does not need to know about this as you place it in the car or buy a magnetic case to attach it under the car.
Kitt - how do you load Google Maps onto Google Earth and how do you read/interpret the data to find the hotel room number? Interesting.
