Snoring can be a sign of sleep apnea.

End of June Update

Again, a huge thank you for all your healing wishes and advice for smy.

He has been diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea, over 45 obstructive events on average per hour, as well as moderate to loud continuous snoring (to which I can attest!).

Yesterday, he saw our family doctor and she filled in/faxed the paperwork to the MTO for licence reinstatement, concurring that this was a one time event, given his medical history. We both hope there are no complications/delays. But, no doubt, I am driving Miss Daisy for the summer.

A plus for me, as the driver, is that smy has taken up reading in the car, currently a Clive Cussler adventure. Believe me, he taught me to drive back in '71, so any driving missteps I make I can also attribute to his teaching skills. It was a four hour round trip yesterday!

smy has an appointment on Tuesday with the CPAP rep. He really doesn't want one of these machines; I understand completely, but he needs to realize that his health is not just his business-- he has a family to consider, let alone his own mortality.

So we are off to the cottage for our Canada Day long weekend with our kids and their spouses, and celebrating smy's 72nd birthday on Monday, a double celebration.

Again, thank you so much for your support!

As much as smy may not want to face this as the Dx, I believe this really is the best outcome. I have been wanting to send you a PM and maybe now I will do that, if you don't mind.

Happy birthday, SMY (please pass that on to him). (I've already posted my congratulations to Canada.)

Thanks so much for the update. I hope he finds a CPAP machine that works for him soon. The possible effects of sleep apnea are very, very worrisome.

The new CPAPs are MUCH more comfortable, and almost soundless, compared to the ones of yesterday. Seriously, once you get used to it, you no longer feel it. I would suggest getting the expensive CPAP pillows for added comfort. I think they are about $55-60.

Added bonus, many things like headaches, exhaustion, etc. will disappear almost immediately.

Thanks for updating.

Happy birthday, SMY!!! Great photo!

Wear that CPAP thing...please! As noted earlier from StillLivin, the technology has advanced and evolved, so hopefully there won't be a long period of adjustment.
