Every teacher/professor I know from K-college has had to put in MORE time since COVID. And so many of them have kids of their own that are e-learning, so they have double duty.

What for the life of me I can't understand is, what about all the teachers, who, for one reason or another (cancer, on certain medications, etc.) have a compromised immune system. They are being forced to go back into a classroom and a school building??? What happens when they get sick, or even worse, can you imagine being a teacher forced to be in the classroom, find out you've infected one of your students when you were asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic? And maybe that student brings it home to a compromised family member?

Unless they start testing every student who opts to come into school and the entire school staff (including bus drivers) at least once, if not twice a week, it's got the potential of being a massive disaster.

^^ and even then the results taking 5-7 or so days to come in would cause further chaos and allow much time for viral explosion. Smh.

My daughter is in administration. Elementary school principal. She's been in on all the meetings and serves on planning committees about reopening. She says it absolutely will not work and her committee suggestions for our area is distance learning until after Christmas break - and then review. We all know that's hard for parents but no one realizes just how much work is being done by teachers and administrators to try to solve this. Education has always been low-funded and not a priority for the powers that be. That HAS to change. Our children are our future. We MUST listen to the CDC about this and politics should NOT be a part of any decisions. We are talking about lives. Precious lives.

Teachers don't choose that profession for the money, that is for sure. It's pure dedication on their part. If ANYTHING can get me riled up is hearing people downgrade educators. I've seen my daughter many times use her own money to buy school supplies, buy shoes and coats for students and even take groceries to families when she'd find out they had no food. I fully believe teachers have to have a 'heart' for their students and it's always way more than just teaching them ABC's and Math.

We have to make sure students, teachers and administrators are kept safe and to help them get through this.

I know many parents who have said that they will not be sending their children to school come September.

Our provincial government has said that if you arent comfortable with it that's ok, e learning will be available regardless if school resumes or not. They have given us a few options of how things might look so it's not an all or nothing thing. As long as we can get unlimited internet without breaking the bank I'm all for e learning. If they want to alternate days so class sizes are small I'm ok with that too.

And yes not enough focus is on education. Learned that along time ago when I was in school. Teachers and educators need to be recognized for all that they do in and out of the class.

We’re still doing OK here. H’s opioid taper is actually doing very well! His head is clearing, he is more sociable, has called friends just to talk, and is getting out of bed more. We have an appt with a neurologist on Wednesday to hopefully get approved for a neurostemulator for his pain. He has ordered a new wheelchair, and PT and OT will be starting soon. 😊

I think it'll be announced tomorrow and I think we're starting on time with PPE and will provide online classes for those students not comfortable. My job is technology and books. And I have a feeling it's going to be 100% technology this year, which is fine, I'll keep my job then. But I'm also 54 and even though I'm in great shape, I'm 54. And 4 years from retirement.

Whats Right that is amazing!!!! I am so glad that he seems to have really turned a corner and decided life is worth living. That has to make you happy.

As far as health goes here, we are all good. Still social distancing as much as I can stand ( haven't left he house all week except to go to the vegetable stand) We ordered good masks when this all started and they are very comfortable so I wear them whenever we go anywhere. I keep hand sanitizer just about anywhere you look too.

I did read an interesting study yesterday about Vitamin D and a possible link to some getting so ill and others not. So if you don't take D on the regular, you might want to add it in unti we know more. Most Adults are chronically low anyway.

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but a lifelong friend died last week. It was a shock - thankfully a family member let me know the day before the memorial so I could attend virtually in a far away city. I have no doubt that it's Covid-or-Covid-environment related in one way or another - still waiting for autopsy results. My attempts in the last few months to check in were unsuccessful. Heavy sigh.

I was mentioned at the memorial to be one of the ash dispersers - Ah man...I trust I will figure it out...

I'm so sorry chili for your loss. It's good that you were virtually able to attend the memorial.

Physically healthy here. Mentally very anxious as we await the district decisions on school. Then, our charter will have to decide. But all of that is contingent on state approval, so who knows when we will really know. Hopefully before 8/5 - our currently scheduled return date. Also waiting for the research from CSU about singing to inform some choices about my job in particular. Those are due out 7/25.

My neighbor down the street tested positive. She is still going to work (in the office setting where she was exposed).

My high school friend is waiting for results for her and her 1 year old son (who has Hirschsprung’s). Her fiancée tested positive (got his results Sunday) and spent most of the evening in the hospital yesterday (but they sent him home after fluids).

Idk. I’m back to just wanting to lock the doors and pretend the world doesn’t exist.

How sweet and very typical of you, WR, to think of me. I'm good, even tested negative for covid19, I had a minor sore throat thought it was prudent.

My husband is good, too, dodged a bullet, one of his vessels was 100% affected, another 70%, they were stented and the remaining blockage, 50 % in the "widow maker" will be managed medically. He's taking it all seriously and eating the healthy Indian food my neighbor is providing. He needs to learn to cook for himself, I don't like to cook and I can only eat about 10 things without paying a price. I can and do shop for and prepare fruits and vegetables to be eaten raw. He was terrified.

But the thing i want to emphasize here is HE DID NOT HAVE CLASSIC SYMPTOMS. If anything, it presented as a lung problem, possibly covid, a burning sensation as he inhaled, only with exertion. As soon as he rested it went away. We had a telehealth visit with urgent care, that doctor didn't immediately think heart, either, although he did tell him to go to the ER if it happened again. I'm not sure I could have forced him if that advice wasn't given

So, don't hesitate. Get to the ER with any questionable symptoms.

Wow, WR! Successfully weaning off the opiates. I'm praying this helps his overall health and mental health. You certainly are deserving of a happier life!

Prayers for all my teacher friends who are dealing with this. Our district has a tentative plan in place that allow parents a choice. But teachers will not, 4 days a week, 9-1 teaching smaller classes, 1-4 teaching virtually. For those paying attention, there is no lunch, no bathroom breaks, no prep time. It's unworkable.

Wednesdays will be for deep cleaning, (and sleep for exhausted teachers, if they don't happen to have their own kids at home.

I’m having a bit of a nervous break down due to the fact that my eldest son has just joined a motorcycle “club“ and bought a motorcycle. I’m already having nightmares about him wrecking.

Also, another son is headed to rehab on Monday. It’s his idea, and he seems to be “ready“ to listen and benefit. Not like it’s court ordered, or somebody (me) is pushing him to do it.

Right now my state is like surrounded by a bunch of states that are really spiking some bad Covid numbers. I am TOTALLY going to just hang out inside as much as possible.

How is everybody doing? People who are sick, or have loved ones that are sick, please check in.

We are okay here but had a scare. We'd been exposed -- several feet away -- from an elderly person who tested positive. By 'we' -- I mean my daughter and I. We got tested and waited 6 days for results - NEGATIVE. Lots of anxiety during the wait.

My state had 1201 NEW positive cases yesterday. 1404 NEW positive cases today. This is not a running total -- it's NEW daily cases. I asked a doctor friend of my daughters what his best guess is when we might see some relief. He doesn't see relief until possibly .... 'after flu season.' Not very encouraging.

Physically doing fine at the moment but mentally....I'm tired. Cant even scroll my fb without so much bullshit that its constantly depressing.

We have entered stage 3 of reopening here. Covid numbers are down big time. Things are looking up. Then of course you have the people who decided to throw parties with 200 people or people bitch about masks. The conspiracy theories and fb graduated medical folks drive me batty.

I watched a video clip of an east Indian man (sorry if that offends I dont know where he was from) give a speech. He said who the hell do we think we are to feel we are above anything else on this planet. He said if all the insects die tomorrow, all of them, then all life would end. But...if humans were to all die tomorrow life would go on as if nothing happened. A tree would grow up right through this building as if it wasnt even here.

I might just go for a quick swim. Then finish the extended run for the geese and ducks since they have eaten all of the vegetation in their enclosed run. It's hot out so working in the heat is a bit much. Might wait for this evening.

What people don't realize is that we're all strapped into this rollercoaster whether we like it or not, and the virus is in the driver's seat ALL the way.

Yea, if MLB can't get it together and get past the first week of their season without a major setback, with all of their wealthy resources, testing, precautions, then how do they expect schools to do so, that are so underfunded that teachers are often buying pencils and tissues for their own classrooms.

Hopefully that first outbreak in schools (and you know it's going to happen, whether at K or college level), only hits in one place, and the rest of the schools across the country take notice before it happens in too many places.

You are RIGHT, Faithfool -- the school starting 'bump' will not be pretty with little tiny caskets being seen too much. What is the hurry? Our kids aren't going to 'dumb down' in just a few months, especially with chrome books, iPads and teachers actually teaching them online. Geez. It will save their lives as well as the lives of teachers, administrators, cafeteria personnel, janitors and school bus drivers.

As for the nuts on Facebook, again I'm glad I have never joined that crowd. I couldn't deal with the ignorance.
