Sending prayers and healing mojo.

I'm so sorry, though if you're going to have a seizure, a hospital is probably a good place to have it.

Man, I hope they get to the bottom of this and find something eminently curable.

Did SMY try the Breathe Right strips? They may help some.

I couldn't tolerate the CPAP masks, either. I tried 3-4 masks. The nose-only one was best. I thought I tolerated it for 5 minutes - in actuality, it was less than one minute.

I saw an Ear-Nose-Throat guy who was able to identify where my blockages are. That gave me some things to work on. Alas, one of those is losing weight, and that's difficult. In any case, finding a good ENT doc may help identify SMY's actual blockage(s), and that may point to a solution.

Maybe listening to some of those LPs will help.

You should ask for a bi-pap as opposed to the c-pap. I couldn't tolerate having all that air shoved into my lungs. The bi-pap alternates air flow with the intake and outtake. Much more natural. I use the nasal pillows only.

Well crap - this is not the desired update. Please extend healing to smy and peace to both of you as you try and get to the bottom of this scary situation.

smy remains in hospital. He is being monitored with an anti-seizure med called Dilantin.
Hopefully, he will see CPAP rep early next week and get a face mask. He's a mouth breather,so the nostril-only mask was not what he should have had. I'll also look into the bi-pap. Thanks for the tip!
smy hates the air pressure, too. That's why he couldn't/wouldn't try harder to adapt.
Since we are a small rural hospital, he is being transported to the nearest city to have a shoulder cast put on tomorrow. I googled them and I hope this cast will allow movement at his elbow. Regardless, he will not be a happy camper!
This man was healthy for 70 years! But now, in the last 2 years -- fainted on the sidewalk, concussion, coup contre coup bleeding two summers ago and now in the last 9 weeks, seizures from sleep apnea, although what caused the grand mal in the hospital has not been explained.
He is still waiting for the MRI to be booked.
Thank you all for your healing wishes.

P.S. He hates the hospital and he hates the food!

Shockedmom posted 8/8/2019 00:14 AM

Sending prayers and hugs. Are you able to smuggle healthy but delicious food into the hospital for him?

DragnHeart posted 8/8/2019 03:50 AM

Sending prayers for quick healing and answers to all of this.

Thank you all for your prayers and healing mojo!

smy is coming home tomorrow, staying overnight for monitoring dosage of anti-seizure drug Dilantin.

He doesn't have to wear a shoulder cast: doc says the sling is sufficient - it's a fracture, not a break (humerus), wants to see him in a couple of weeks for a checkup and show him some physio exercises.

He has an appointment next Thursday with the ResMed nurse and giving the CPAP system another try starting tomorrow night.

Neither of us wants there to be a third time - it definitely wouldn't be a charm!!!

DragnHeart posted 8/8/2019 19:21 PM

I'm glad to hear he's coming home. Hopefully this is all worked out and he doesn't have another episode.

Sending continued prayers and mojo for both of you! Please let him know we are thinking of him.

Good news that he is going home! Sending prayers for the both of you.

Happy to hear he's going home!
Thank you for all the updates...🙏

SoÖsmy couldnít stand the sounds coming from the patient in the next bed. Against medical advice, he signed himself out at 3:15 this morning.
So, now weíre back to square one. The hospital has no further responsibility: no meds prescription, MRI requisition cancelled, follow-up Cast Clinic appointment, etc.
He has to have the Dilantin by 8:00 pm tonight, as itís been in his system since Tuesday and should not quit. I am driving him to our family doctor this afternoon to (hopefully) get Dilantin prescription and set the wheels in motion for an MRI and referral to neurologist.
And then tonight he had better try the CPAP again!

DragnHeart posted 8/9/2019 10:40 AM

Ok I hated being in the hospital too but omg!

He NEEDS to get this sorted out!

Tell.him Dragnheart is sending him a 2x4 along with hugs and mojo....

looking forward posted 8/9/2019 11:37 AM

Fortunately, I just received a call from the hospital. An angel nurse-practioner named Beth is continuting smy's care; phoning in his prescription for Dilantin, regular lab tests for blood levels, and MRI requisition is still in effect.
What a relief!
So, now I have cancelled family doc appointment.

minusone posted 8/9/2019 11:53 AM

Oh gosh.....Itís not going to be easy. Iím with Dragon Heart in sending 2x 4ís along with prayers and mojo.

Hang in there LF

((((SMY and LF))))

DragnHeart posted 8/9/2019 11:57 AM

Thanks be to Beth!!! Glad the care will continue.

Now LF....are you taking care of you throughout all of this? How are you sleeping? Eating? The stress if worry for smy can cause problems for you. Make sure you take a step back now and then to take care of yourself.

thebighurt posted 8/9/2019 13:16 PM

I'm sorry this happened again. I know how disappointed smy must be to know driving will now be postponed again, until this gets sorted out, at least. Not good that he went AMA, but so good that Beth understands what ramifications he might face and that he really needs to do the protocol.

I don't remember if smy has a neuro appointment, but that may be needed to get to the cause if the MRI doesn't do it.

Sending a PM - hope it's okay.

hopefull77 posted 8/10/2019 06:28 AM

I agree with need to take care of you as well!
Oh man hospitals are no fun...but he's got to get this figured out!
Hope your night went ok.

DragnHeart posted 8/11/2019 19:45 PM

How are the both of you doing???

looking forward posted 8/13/2019 11:02 AM

A week later update.....

smy is in a lot of pain with his fractured humerus, reluctant to take Tylenol.
Won't wear his sling in bed.
Saw CPAP rep this morning and has a new face mask and she has set the machine to "soft" and also that smy can turn on/off. This should relieve the pressure buildup he has difficulty adjusting to. The machine is set at the lowest (4) and maximum for him is 5.
MRI booked on the 20th and hope to get neurologist referral ASAP.
Sees family doctor next week.
Complaining of groin pain now.

Thank you again to all who wish quick healing for smy.
