Preferably in the lower 48...I know Hawaii and Alaska are amazing, in completely different ways.

What do you love about it? How are the summers? What is winter like? What area is best in your opinion? Things to do (other than the obvious i.e. skiing in winter or swimming in summer)? What is the landscape like? Anything interesting you can tell me? TIA

I have been in DC for three years now and have totally fallen in love. Summers are hot and muggy, winters are cold, traffic is terrible, but the culture is amazing.

I'm the total opposite of Ama

I love Montana and Wyoming. Amazingly beautiful mountains, rivers, valleys ect. The landscape is breath taking. Summers are gorgeous -- occasionally really hot but mostly just perfect and not humid. Winters can be brutal but there is lots of skiing and climbing. There's not a lot of people and whole different type culture.

I'm from WA - perfect summers. I live in ID -- crazy extremes but my city is surprisingly cultural and I love it here.

I've traveled to all of the states, except HI, and have lived in 6 of them so I guess I've bee around the US. Each of them has a uniqueness - all are pretty cool.

My fav tho is PA, right here. I love the seasons, the mountains, the rivers, the people and the sports (of course). We have Ivy League and minor league, TMI and TMI, hero's and jerks, friendships and simply friends. There is a shitload of history here, good and bad. People leave for riches elsewhere, but they seem to come back.

I once never thought I'd be here - now I think I'll never leave.

I've a native New Yorker and loved living there as a child.

But as a 20+ year transplant to California, I've grown to truly love it here.

I can ski (snow), hit the beach, camp, kayak, take in some culture in the city, go wine-tasting, or just get off the beaten trail and leave civilization behind - all within a 2 hour drive of where I live.

San Francisco...born and raised there and will call it home until the day I die.

Boston because its an East coast version of San Francisco Excellent food, great people, lots of history and a totally walk-friendly city with excellent mass-transit as well.

I love living in The Woodlands, but it's just a wee bit stuck up for me.

I really like western PA. It's a great place to raise kids. There are hills, different seasons( my favorite is fall), snow, and trees, trees, trees.

There are no scorpions, tarantulas, or earthquakes. Damage from hurricanes and tornados is minimal.

We have 3 great sports teams, technology, good bier education, and world class medical facilities. We also have lots of history, and we're 6 hours or less from NYC, Washington, D.C., and the beach.

However, we also have: potholes, freezing rain, and snakes.

The best part is that my family is here.

Florida - Walt Disney World - need I say more?

I love that in the dead of winter there's no snow on the ground and I can still wear a coat and snuggle under my comforter. (Central Florida)

No mountains here, but that's ok. I prefer being on the Eastern side of the US... *lived in Denver, CO for two years* and I don't need seasons.

Schools aren't the greatest and culture kind sucks... but I can travel for culture and since I'm a teacher I can help my son make the most of his education.

I grew up in Michigan and never ever liked the snow and cold.

I have been to just about every state, skipped Oregon and Washington, but I'll get there. And don't laugh, but my choice of states to live in as I retire is

NEW JERSEY

Yeah, we get that we are the brunt of every joke, and rightfully so, in many cases. But my part of the state is almost ideal. It isn't too hot or too cold, except for a week or two a few times a year, we are spared the most vicious weather, although we've had some close calls in recent times, I live near working farms for some of the best produce (and WINE) in the world, and I am within an hour's drive of beautiful beaches where I can fish, boat, bird, or just sit on my fanny and watch the dolphins. I can also be in a city within 30 minutes for shows, world class orchestra, art museums and anything else I want.

And if South Jersey gets their wish, we can secede from the North and all be happier!

I'm a native New Yorker. I feel very comfortable with other New Yorkers. However, AZ will always be my second love. New Mexico, Montana, Oregon & Wasington round out my favorites.

I was raised in VA. Left it 30 years ago to come to NC. NC has been good for career, but as I get old-ER, I have grown tired of the traffic, taxes, crime, etc. of a big city.

My plan is to sell my NC house and go back to VA. Smaller town, but has everything I need. Lots less traffic/crime/taxes too. Plus, I just want to be close to the family I have left. And, there is a LOT of beautiful scenery and mountains in VA. I'm headed back to a valley, but still...

Time for me to go HOME.

Virginia - born here and love the state. The Blue Ridge, Chesapeake, variety, seasons, and diversity of this state is awesome. It's not the best at any one thing, but it's great at a lot of them. I've lived around the country and around the world, but I knew I'd always come back to VA. It's home. There are a lot of great places, but I love where I live now. It's serenity here in the Piedmont.

My future is going to be in CO.Love the people, mountains, and views. Winters ? No I won't be there in the Winter but become a snowbird.

I'm a midwestern native (Iowa)but CA (SF Bay Area) Has been my home for 33 yrs so I'm very comfortable here and my Grandkids live here. Love CA but too many people in certain areas and very expensive.

I'm never going to be able to settle anywhere south of the line since I'm Canuck, but here goes: agree with DS on SF and Boston. Love to visit both but you gotta have cash to live there.

NC and VA are on my bucket list. When y'all get settled be sure to install a spare room for me kay?

NYC is a blast to visit, would love to live around Saratoga to be away but close.

In my past lives I swear I was a cowgrl in Montana/Colorado. Love those Rockies.
